Here are some fun number sense activities my students have enjoyed over the past couple of weeks!
We made a booklet for numbers 0-5 as we talked about each number in depth.
The kids loved making the numbers out of playdough! They did such a great job!
We also had math centers for a few days where the students visited each math center found below.
Center 1: The students had to piece together a circle for each number. There were four parts to the circle: a picture, dice, the numeral, and tallies.
Center 2: Students had sticky notes 0-5 mixed up in front of them. They had to put them in order and then place the correct number of manipulatives on each number.
Center 3: The group had a pile of cards with either a picture of the number or the numeral itself. If they drew a numeral, they had to draw a picture to represent that number on their white board. If they drew a picture, they had to write the numeral on the board.
Center 4: Each student had a set of pipe cleaners labeled 0-5. They had to put them in order and then place the correct number of beads on each pipe cleaner.
Center 5: Students had these sheets that were laminated for continued use/practice throughout the year. They are "All About the Number" sheets, so they used these to practice each number 0-5. I saw another version of these on Pinterest, so I can't take all the credit, but I changed them up just a little to better meet our needs!
Math can be so much fun!! I think my kiddos really enjoyed the math centers and they have got number sense, let me tell ya! ;-)
Try it with your kids, comment, and let me know how it goes. I would also love to hear any other ideas you may have!
