What I'm Loving...

Friday, February 15, 2013
So as I am hanging out on this Friday night (when I should be cleaning up the house before my hubby gets home from working a basketball game) I came across a fun linky party from one of my newest follower's blog, Mrs. Harris, at Adventures of Room 129. It's been a pretty good week in kinderland and with Valentine's Day yesterday, I thought it would be the perfect time to be all lovey-dovey! So here is my list of "What I'm Loving..." from Growing Kinders linky!

First of all, I am loving my amazing husband! He is such a supportive guy and has such a passion for everything he does! I'm loving my wonderful family as well! I love how close we all are and I especially love when we all come home and spend time together! They are the best! :)

I'm loving my crazy, big, funky class, my first year of teaching, and the amazing staff I work with! I just got back from our FAC (Friday Afternoon Club) meeting with a fun group of people. I'd like to think our staff is "one of a kind" for sure!

I'm loving our new camera that we got for Christmas. I LOVE taking pictures (too many pictures) so it's great to have a nicer camera!
TV shows I'm loving...
I have all 10 seasons of Friends, so it is my "go-to" show when I have extra time! Love that show! The Bachelor is my guilty pleasure...I know the whole concept is pretty ridiculous, but something about it has me hooked! Nashville is that show that always leaves you wanting more; I look forward to my Wednesday nights! HIMYM reminds me a lot of Friends which is probably why I like it so much. Law & Order SVU is the best Law & Order there is (in my opinion), I just wish I could convince my husband of its awesomeness! ;)
I'll end this post with one of the many letters I received in the last couple of days that reminds me why I LOVE what I do!

I got another one today that said, "Mrs. Berns, you are the best kindergarten teacher I've ever had!" Even though I'm the only kindergarten teacher she has ever had, I'll take that any day! :)

Happy LOVE month to all of you and I hope you enjoy your long weekend!

100th Day FUN!

Sunday, February 10, 2013
We celebrated our 100th day of school last Thursday by dressing up like we were 100 years old. My kids were cracking me up ALL day! Some came in the classroom acting like they didn't have their teeth in, so they were talking funny. I had a few that went all out and played the part perfectly all day long. One of my girls was bent over on her cane anytime we went anywhere...even when we said the Pledge of Allegiance! SO FUNNY! We spent the whole day doing 100th day activities, and I'm pretty sure they all had a blast. I know I did! =)

My 100 year old kindergarteners!
Taking our teeth out!! Haha!

We spent the morning making our 100th day hats and painting our sign.

Grab a freebie for your own hats by clicking the picture below!
Our sign turned out so cute and colorful! They did a super job.

We had a very yummy 100th day trail mix, thanks to the donations from our wonderful parents. Then we completed our 100th day booklet that contained many fun writing prompts about 100.

I thought this one was clever..."I would not want 100 kids." Haha, me either buddy!! :-P
Finally, we made our very own portrait of what we would look like when we are 100 years old. They turned out super cute! It's so fun and exciting to see their creativity. I just love it!

Here are Mr. & Mrs. Berns at 100 years old! My students came up with the "cool" part which I thought was pretty cute. =)

They are proudly posted out in our hallway!

Grab your own sentence starter for your portraits by clicking on the picture below.

Here are a few of my favorites! I love their sentences!

"When I am 100 years old, I will be living at Valley View." - this is an assisted living place in town! ;)
"When I am 100 years old, I will be cool!" - I love his tie!
"When I am 100 years old, I will be an old, old gramma!" - too cute!
"When I am 100 years old, I will have grand kids!" - look at those eyebrows :)
"When I am 100 years old, I will make a shake." - Haha, I love it! :)
What a fun day! I hope you enjoyed the freebies and if you liked any other ideas you saw, you might want to check out my "Let's Celebrate 100 Days of School" pack on my TpT store.

I have survived my first 100 days of school! YAY!

What are your favorite 100 day activities?

SNOW!!!

Sunday, February 3, 2013
We just had a sweep of snow come through Kansas this past week. We had our first late start which came at a prime time because we just finished our unit about winter and writing about how to make a snowman. I was so, so, so impressed with my students' writing and creativity. Their little snowmen turned out adorable as well! Take a peak below, and if you like what you see, this came from my Snowmen, Snowmen pack.

At the end of the week, we decided to go outside and play in the SNOW! The kids were SO excited and they LOVED it!! It was a great way to end a Friday afternoon! Check out these happy little campers! =)

The joy of being a kid and making memories! How special!

Kansas Day Festivities!

We celebrated Kansas Day early this year within our elementary school on January 25th. Our amazing Kansas Day committee put together a full day of activities. In the morning we rotated between 6 different stations to learn about Kansas. Then in the afternoon, the whole school got to join in the gym to watch The Wizard of Oz. It was such a wonderful experience and I was so impressed with how well behaved our little kinders were all day long! How well do you know your Kansas facts?! Scroll through the pictures and find the answers below!

A presenter from Milford Nature Center to show us the different state symbols.
