Boy oh boy has it been a crazy, fun, stressful, busy, and long week all in one! The time change has been killing me this week and not to mention the sight of spring break just a couple days away. We are ALMOST there!!! We can do it!! :) In my first year of teaching, I have come to the realization that March is probably one of my favorite months out of the year. I'm not sure exactly why but I'm sure the smell of spring in the air, St. Patrick's day fun, green, and did I mention SPRING....might have a little a lot to do with it!
Last week I went ahead and ordered this fun book for St. Patrick's day. I had my eye on it for a while and just decided to go for it! It came just in time too! I was so excited and so were my kinders when I shared it with them on Monday.
Here's how it works...we read the story and I told them the leprechauns
left me a note because in the story, you are supposed to start on the
14th and it's more about kids at home. I told them the note said we
could start on the 11th and that we should put the coin by Mrs. Berns'
computer before we go home each day. So at the end of every day, if the
kids were good they got to choose whether Liam (the nice leprechaun) or
Leyland (the naughty leprechaun) would come visit our classroom that evening. If they had a rough day,
then we had to leave it up to luck and flip the coin to see who would
visit. The first two evenings we had Liam (once by choice
and the other by luck) and he brought some sweet treasures. Then on the third day the class got to choose
and they chose Leyland. A couple of my poor little kinders were so scared that
he was going to come and ruin our classroom, but I'm pretty sure they were excited after they
arrived this morning and saw our room in a mess! It was priceless to see
and hear their reactions to what Leyland did to our classroom!
There was toilet paper hanging from our addition links and in our cubbies...
Our caddies were dumped out and chairs knocked over...
Our reading words were all mixed up on our pocket chart...
Leyland wrote his name on our word wall...
He gave everyone one or two blurts...
He dumped out our blocks all over the carpet...
And he wrote us this ornery message!!!
Man! What a naughty little leprechaun he is! Tomorrow is our last day and both leprechauns get to come tonight! This is the big night and I can't wait to see what these two leprechauns were up to in the morning! :)
On another note, I am ready for a stress-free Friday tomorrow because my report cards are all finished and ready to go home...FINALLY!! It's such a relief when all of the assessments are finished and graded. YAY!
